January 3, 2016

Some days, when opportunity presents itself, you have to seize it, even if "seizing it" means little more than an hour's low key spin. So went today, Sunday, January 3, a big booming sunny day in New England. I didn't have a ton of energy but I went out for a Reverse Reservoir Loop anyway and notched the second ride of 2016.

  1. I think you should put all of your Bancroft studies into a book, something like Bancroft through the year. It is ICONIC, it symbolizes Woo-City, certainly in my mind, thanks to your efforts. A whole massive artwork - go BIG! The transformations of 400 years, American history, culture. Posters, buttons, CDs, t-shirts. Merchandizing is not the aim but it is part of the culture - merchandizing as artwork!!!!! This is my idea Pat, yes you inspired it and will deserve and receive credit, should it go BIG. Merchandizing as artwork! On the other hand maybe we could do it together - cross-Atlantic visions of the triumphal arch, arches arches arches!!! They are the unifying theme of the Euro bills, each bill has a variation on the arch, the bridge, the connecting architecture. The Euro and Woo-city: a dialogue. Shad+Scrod, the arching school of silvery finny fish, moving below the frothy waves of the shivering NOrth Atlantic, our birthplace, our birthright, where we were born, we were born in the dark ... strung out in heaven's high feeling an all-time low. There's a lot that has already been done here, we are adding to it. S C R O D

    1. Like Bernd and Hilla Becher and their water towers and their industrial buildings. Except only one building, Bancroft Tower. Over and over again. It is the iconic structure of Woo City for me as well (other than Team Shad HQ).

You are a visionary, mon ami. If we can merchandize the Tower, we should. Actually, that would make a cool motif for a biking jersey. The Bancroft Tower Wheelmen. Sort of like Watts Towers, though not quite as eccentric.
